Kurup is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language biographical crime drama film written by K. S. Arvind, Jithin K. Jose and Daniel Sayooj Nair, and directed by Srinath Rajendran. The film is produced by Wayfarer Films. Nimish Ravi is the Director of Photography while Vivek Harshan is the editor.
About Project
Kurup had about 40 minutes of visual effects by Mindstein Studios. The film’s story takes the viewer through many decades starting from the 1960s. Visual effects requirements for this film (shot in 2019, 2020 and 2021) ranged from CG time-period elements and re-painting to beautification of landscapes and set extensions.
VFX Highlights
Every shot containing the cruise liner Royal Viking Sea was rendered using the digital 3D model, created and rendered by Mindstein studios.
Scenes
The shots onboard the cruise ship were filmed on a port in Karnataka. CG elements were added to the scene, apart from replacing the green screen with the view from ship’s deck.
The infamous house of the character was digitally recreated for the film.
A crucial scene in the film involves a murder that takes place in a moving car. This scene was among the two car travelling scenes shot in a chroma studio. The period relevant background plates of night travelling were composited in post.
