Koothara is a 2014 Indian Malayalam-language coming-of-age film written by Vini Vishwa Lal and directed by Srinath Rajendran. The film was produced by Marikar Films.
About Project
Koothara contains around 20 minutes of creative VFX by Mindstein Studios.
The visual effects of storm sequence in the film Koothara was completed within a span of 3 months at Mindstein Studios in 2014. The movie scene had characters facing their biggest fears in the form of 30 foot storm waves. Shots of the actors were taken on boat docked to pier, with on-set rain effects. These plates were composited on digitally rendered stormy sea. Complex fluid simulations were rendered for other shots involving a 3d model of the boat used. 3d rain particles were also used to enhance on-set rain.
This sequence paved way for Mindstein Studios to win the Anchorage Campus Choice Cine Award for Best Visual Effects in 2015.
